You don't even need a theme park ticket to enjoy a bit of Disney magic with this list of cheap activities. Each item will set you back less than $10.
1] Visit World of Disney. So what if it's a store...it can also be a lot of fun. Take pictures of everyone wearing the themed hats. You don't need to spend $30 to remember what you looked like with Mickey's Sorcerer hat on.
2] Stroll the Boardwalk. Walt Disney World's Boardwalk Inn has a common area surrounding the lagoon that mimics the boardwalk Coney Island. During summer months, they even offer jugglers and other entertainment.
3] Ride the Monorail. It doesn't cost a thing to ride the monorail...and you can ride it as long as you like. You can choose from the route around the Seven Seas Lagoon (which passes the Magic Kingdom) or the route that connects the Magic Kingdom with Epcot. You can even avoid the $9 parking fee at the Magic Kingdom and Epcot by parking at Downtown Disney and taking the bus over to the Ticket and Transportation Center (the TTC). From there, both monorail routes are accessible.
4] Take a Cruise. Not as widely known as the monorail, Walt Disney World offers several boat routes for transportation throughout the property. These are also free and vary in route and length. Choose from Downtown Disney Marketplace to the House of Blues for a short trip, or the Marketplace to Disney's Port Orleans Resort. There is also a boat route that travels from the International Gateway of Epcot (between England and France) to the entrance of Disney-MGM Studios, with stops at the Boardwalk, Yacht and Beach Club and the Swan and Dolphin resorts. There is a boat that goes from Fort Wilderness and Wilderness Lodge to the entrance of the Magic Kingdom, and a huge double-decker ship that ferries passengers between the TTC and the Magic Kingdom. These alone should occupy a few hours, if desired.
5] Watch Epcot's Illuminations Fireworks For Free. There is a bridge that connects the walkways between the Boardwalk and the Yacht and Beach Club resorts. From this bridge you have a great view of the nightly Illuminations show - at least the fireworks portion, as well as some of the lighting effects. Sure it's not as grandiose as being at the lagoon inside the park watching it, but it's also about $70 cheaper...plus you don't have to fight your way out of the crowded park after.
I hope you enjoy these tips on how to enjoy your time at Walt Disney World without spending a lot of money. In my next article I'll show you even more ways to do Disney on a budget.
